Air-To-Air Refueling (AAR)

Today's post is about the military aviation regarding refueling when the plane is in the air.

AAR is a process to deliver the fuel to the boom operator, also known as a tanker, while the plane needs fuel in the course of the flight. The boom operator or tanker is the aircraft that is responsible for the delivery of fuel to another plane using the probe-and-drogue system.

Probe-and-drogue system is the system that enables refueling by establishing a connection between the probe of receiver and drogue of sender Generally, AAR or in-flight refueling is intentionally done to reduce the MTOW(Maximum Take-off Weight) so that more cargo, weapons, and ammunition because the amount of fuel enhances the weight of the aircraft. In general, the application of the refueling system acquires about 15 minutes refueling 6303 gallons. The AAR can assist in fuel saving in the range of 35 to 40%.
The following system has higher flow rates of fuel in comparison with the previous Wing-to-wing system.
Similarly, the planes have less chance of being harm due to adverse weather conditions.
